Notable locations that travelers may visit are the Samdrup Jongkhar Dratshang, the Zangdo Pelri, the nearby town, and Dewathang. One of the oldest towns in Eastern Bhutan, Samdrup Jongkhar has seen progressive growth through time.

Dewathang Town: Jigme Namgyal, the father of Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck, led the Bhutanese army in a decisive fight against the British at Dewathang Town in 1884. Jigme Namgyal finally agreed to the Sinchula Treaty with the British in 1865, despite the Bhutanese’s fierce resistance to the British.

Samdrupjongkhar Dzong: Dzong is the newest dzong constructed in the nation. Unlike other dzongs around the nation, it is built on a level, relatively broad open space. The Samdrup Jongkhar Dzong is erected on a level, comparatively open terrain, in contrast to other Dzongs that are situated in advantageous sites atop mountains or between rivers.

Zangto Pelri Lhakhang – In the center of the town stands the three-story Zangto Pelri Lhakhang. The name Zangto Pelri refers to Guru Rinpoche’s heavenly residence. Locals use the structure as a place of worship where they can pray and make religious sacrifices to Guru Padmasambhava. Given that the external architecture is a recreation of Guru’s paradise, it is amazing.
