Day-by-Day Highlights
Drive north through Thimphu Valley, crossing Kabjisa Village. Begin your trek through dense forests of pine and other native species. The trail ascends gradually to Sinchula Pass (3,200m). On a clear day, enjoy views of Phajoding Monastery. After another 2 km, you’ll spot Talo Monastery and the road to Punakha. The trail then gently descends to your campsite.
Distance: 16 km | Walking time: 4–5 hours | Campsite altitude: 2,800m
If the weather is clear, take in sweeping views of Phajoding Monastery and distant Himalayan peaks. The initial stretch of the trail is slow due to uneven terrain. After an hour, you’ll see Thinleygang Village, Talo Monastery, and the Thimphu highway. Continue for another 4–5 hours through mixed forests to your campsite.
Campsite altitude: 2,440m
After breakfast, the trail descends gently through dense forests. Continue walking for 3–4 hours, passing through rural villages and rice fields, until you reach Chorten Nebu, an old temple. Your vehicle will pick you up here for the drive to Punakha.
Altitude at Chorten Nebu: 2,600m | Overnight: Hotel in Punakha
